Lawsuit on Friendster due to impersonating me and posting deragatory comments
Filed under: mercebank.com
  • Someone was impersonating me on friendster. He used my pictures, info, and entries that I had on my public blog to post deragatory things about me in his fake profile of me. He then sent out messages to all my friends telling them to look at my fake profile. I complained to friendster and they closed the account but the damage was already done. I asked friendster to find out what other names logged in from that same IP to see who it was but they sited privacy issues and said they could only do so with a court order. So my questions are: 1. How do I go about filing a court order in NJ? Is it an easy process? Will I definitely be able to get one once I state what happened? 2. Are there any precedents for people bringing a lawsuit for something like this on an internet social forum and what was the outcome? 3. Do I have a good case in general?

  • You would have to prove damages to have a successful case. You would have to show that something bad happened to you or that your friends don't believe you that it was fake, and that it was sufficiently "bad" to cause you problems.
